East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) has 80 miles of EBMUD trails in the East Bay. These hiking and horseback-riding paths go through 27,000 acres of open space. One of the trails in the South Watershed, accessible from the Chabot Staging Area is the Ramage Peak trail, and leads to the area just west of the summit.
Ramage Peak is privately owned and bordered by fencing, but hikers can come within a few hundred feet while still on the EBMUD trail. These trail systems do require a permit.
